The RSNA Turns 100

Dec. 3, 2014

Dear Colleagues,

There are more than 50 radiology professional societies that represent the diverse and highly subspecialized nature of our field. Yet, the Radiological Society of North America is uniquely the 800-lb gorilla. The annual RSNA meeting – hosted in the chill of post-Thanksgiving Chicago – is the largest medical meeting in the world.

Annually Emory Radiology members participate in numerous presentations, tours and demos of the latest imaging technology, and a chance to recharge and connect with friends and colleagues from around the world. Our Monday evening alumni reception is a particularly special part of the meeting week.

While I am hesitant to admit it, this is my 25th RSNA conference. It is awe-inspiring to think of how our field has evolved over this period alone, let alone over the past century. This year marks 100 years since the establishment of the RSNA (originally called the Western Roentgen Society) and there will be lots of opportunity to embrace the rich history of medical imaging. It’s difficult to comprehend that on the occasion of the RSNA’s 50th year, neither CT nor MRI was in widespread clinical practice.

Happy 100th anniversary, RNSA. Radiology is alive and well!

Best to all,

Carolyn
