Letter from the Chair

Oct. 6, 2017

Dear Colleagues,

meltzer

Summer has flown by. It seems like just yesterday that we said our goodbyes to the graduating trainees. Now a wonderful new crew of residents, fellows, staff and faculty has joined the department. In July and August alone, we welcomed 13 new radiology faculty members. We are also delighted that Zony Gazy, RN MSN has assumed a newly created role as Director of Patient Care Practice. And, our new Vice Chair for Quality, Marta Heilbrun, MD, MPH, has just arrived. Looking ahead, a task force led by Dr. Brent Little recently evaluated the size of our diagnostic radiology residency and recommended we plan for a growth in class size over the next several years.  This recommendation has been fully endorsed by our education team and the executive committee.

Based on feedback from multi-site town hall “SWOT” sessions held over the late Spring, a broad department leadership team gathered in July for a strategic planning retreat.  As we waded through the themes that arose from the introspective review of Emory Radiology’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and potential threats, we started building the foundation of our 2018-2022 department strategic plan. We also considered the substantial accomplishments we have collectively attained through a focus on our current (2013-2017) plan, which emphasized priorities relevant to our service excellence culture, the patient experience, imaging informatics, inter-disciplinary partnerships, the distribution of resources across our growing health system, and standardizing best practices.  The newly developing plan will build further on efforts to optimize our employee experience, patient outcomes, a cohesive “one radiology” environment, and our culture of and investment in innovation.  All are encouraged to provide input!

Best to all,

Carolyn
