The Atlanta Magazine consulted the data gathered by the New York-based research firm Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd. The unique selection process allows physicians to nominate other physicians that they feel are clinically outstanding, both regionally and nationally. As reported by Atlanta magazine, "Castle Connolly seeks nominations not only of those who excel in academic medicine and research, but most importantly, those physicians who exhibit excellence in patient care-physicians to whom nominating physicians would send members of their own families."
