The Division of Abdominal Imaging contributes to the department, through a host of clinical, teaching and research activities. A total of 13 faculty and six fellows provide clinical services at Emory University Hospital, the Emory University Hospital Midtown, The Emory Clinic and at the Grady Health System, delivering consistent excellence in diagnostic CT, MR, ultrasound and fluoroscopic imaging. The division also provides a portion of the interventional service in the form of biopsies and drainage, as well as a variety of tumor destructive procedures - notably Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), alcohol ablation and cryoablation. The members of the division are engaged participants in all department teaching activities, both at the medical student and resident levels. Successful research efforts in MR, CT and tumor ablation techniques have an international reputation and currently involve several research fellows.

2012 RSNA Image Interpretation Session
Dr. Baumgarten was chosen to participate at the 2012 RSNA Image Interpretation Session. The session was part of the Sunday afternoon Plenary session held in the Arie Crown Theatre. Four panelists (representing Neuroradiology, Pediatric Radiology, Musculoskeletal Radiology and Abdominal Radiology) discussed and diagnosed two cases in front of a live audience of over 4000 and many more attendees via webcast.
Emory Magazine Spring 2012
Dr. Baumgarten was recognized in the Spring 2012 issue of the Emory Magazine for her eco-friendly lifestyle and taking sustainable living to the next level. Dr. Baumgarten and her husband share a zero-emissions vehicle; they also have an electric scooter as backup. They’ve replaced light bulbs with LEDs; recycle, reuse, or compost as much as possible; and eat local, organic, and mostly produce—no meat, pork, or chicken. She and her husband are in the process of designing a green home for her family.
Grand Rounds Highest Faculty Attendance
During the 2011 academic year, Dr. Tridandapani rarely missed a Grand Rounds presentation. His dedication originates from the belief that Grand Rounds is a time for all members of the department to get together to enhance their knowledge. He also likes to set a good example for the residents to encourage lifelong learning.
Srini Tridandapani, MD, PhD
Dr. Srini Tridandapani's graduate student Carson Wick received the best poster award in the Cardiac CT category at the North American Society for Cardiovascular Imaging in Boston, MA. Carson’s poster was titled, "A preliminary evaluation of the potential of seismocardiography as a gating tool for cardiac computed tomography." Co-authors included Drs. Tridandapani and Stillman, and Dr. McClellan from Georgia Tech.
Srini Tridandapani, MD, PhD
Assistant Professor of Radiology
Associate Scientific Advisors for Science Translational Medicine
Dr. Tridandapani is one of 16 scientists selected as an Associate Scientific Advisor for Science Translational Medicine. In this position, he will be required to write a monthly summary about one of the most exciting recent translational advances in our field. He feels this "is a unique opportunity to expose the translational medicine community to advances being made in medical imaging--they have not had an imaging person in this role before."
Srini Tridandapani, MD, PhD
Assistant Professor of Radiology
Radiology Research Alliance (RRA) Young Investigator Award
Dr. Tridandapani was also recently awarded the RRA Young Investigator Award. The primary mission of the Radiology Research Alliance is to encourage research in radiology and the radiological sciences by helping departments establish and improve their research programs.
Srini Tridandapani, MD, PhD
Assistant Professor of Radiology
Radiology Research Study Section Committee for RSNA
Dr. Tridandapani has been selected to serve on the Radiology Research Study Section Committee for RSNA. This committee is responsible for evaluating, scoring, and providing written critiques for the Foundation's radiology research grant applications. The RSNA review process is patterned after the NIH grant review process. Study section members prepare written reviews and submit preliminary scores for assigned grant applications, and they attend a study section meeting to discuss and score all Foundation research grant applications.

Professor of Radiology
Radiology Editor's Recognition
Editor's Recognition awards of the Radiology Journal recently acknowledged Dr. Torres with "Distinction" for his contribution to this premier publication. The publication of a major peer-reviewed journal such as Radiology requires substantial time and effort by numerous reviewers. The skilled and dedicated Editorial Board members are recognized each month on the Radiology masthead. These groups of special individuals are recognized for the high quality of their prompt, detailed, and scholarly reviews and were noted as the recipients of the 2010 Editor's Recognition Award.

Deborah Baumgarten, MD, MPH, FACR
Professor of Radiology
Fellow of The American College of Radiology
Dr. Baumgarten has been selected as Fellows of the American College of Radiology (ACR). Approximately 10% of all ACR members achieve this distinction. She received this honor at the ACR's annual meeting in Washington D.C. in May.
Deborah Baumgarten, MD, MPH, FACR
Professor of Radiology
Director in Succession, Society of Uroradiology
At the 2010 SUR meeting, Dr. Baumgarten was elected to the position of director in succession of the SUR and will become the president in 2015. By 2012, the SUR will be merged with the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiology under an as yet to be named Abdominal Radiology Society.
Srini Tridandapani, PhD, MD
Assistant Professor of Radiology
2009 American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) Scholar
The ARRS Scholar Award will help Dr. Tridandapani embark on a tailored course of study in biomedical engineering and biostatistics as related to the field of cardiac CT. The course of study will assist him as he conducts a series of experiments to prove the efficacy of ultrasound as a gating device for optimizing the acquisition of cardiac CTA. In addition to guidance from the lead mentor, Dr. Arthur Stillman, Dr. Tridandapani will benefit from the mentorship of a team of experts in Radiology and Biomedical Engineering.
William Small, MD, PhD
Director, Abdominal Imaging
RSNA has invited Dr. Small to share his knowledge as experts on the topic of "Gastrointestinal/Emergency Series: Imaging of the Acute Abdomen - Acute and Chronic Conditions Related to Gallstones" at this years annual meeting in Chicago. This presentation will take place on Tuesday, December 2 at 9:45 a.m. in E450B. To view the handout for this lecture, click here.
Bruce Baumgartner, MD
Emeritus Program Director, Diagnostic Radiology Residency
Fellow in the American College of Radiology
Dr. Bruce Baumgartner has been bestowed the honor of Fellow in the American College of Radiology (ACR). This exceptional honor is awarded to only about 10% of ACR members. Dr. Baumgartner received this outstanding achievement because he has demonstrated his continued commitment to the ACR over many years.
