Cardiothoracic Imaging
DIRECTOR: Aurthor Stillman, MD, PhD, Professor of Radiology, Director, Division of Cardiothoracic Imaging
PROGRAM: A one-year fellowship is being offered by the Emory University School of Medicine specializing in cardiothoracic imaging. Radiologists will have the opportunity to gain experience in chest radiology as well as cardiac MRI and CT. Cardiologists concentrate on Cardiac MRI, Cardiac CT and Cardiac PET. Training is enhanced through active participation in research projects. The program strives to prepare individuals for an academic or specialized private practice career.
FACULTY AND EQUIPMENT: This fellowship will give you the opportunity to interact with the established specialists of the Emory Cardiothoracic Imaging division. This fellowship includes experience at the Emory Cardiac Imaging Center, Grady Memorial Hospital and The Emory Clinic. Modalities include Siemens Avanto 1.5T MRI scanner, Siemens Biograph 40 PET/CT, a Digirad Cardius 3 XPO Gamma Camera and the first Siemens Definition Dual Source CT in Georgia.
PATIENT POPULATION: The Cardiac Imaging Center has taken the initiative to contribute to the Emory Healthcare effort to strive toward predictive medicine and reduce the practice of reactive medicine by offering a comprehensive screening for cardiovascular risk factors. While working with those open to predictive medicine, there are many other patients that seek the cutting-edge reputation of Emory for treatment. (Please include top procedures/reads)
CARDIAC MRI: Fellows will receive training in moving images of the heart throughout its pumping cycle. This advancement enhances the ability to diagnose abnormalities in the cardiac chamber and show abnormal patterns in the blood flow in the heart and great vessels.
CARDIAC CT: Emory Healthcare is one of the few centers in the south to offer the technology of the dual source CT scanner. This modality will give fellows exposure to the capabilities of capturing data twice as fast, which will deliver motion-free cardiac images. Other advantages include automatic removal of bone for CT angiography and to obtain iodine contrast images in perfusion.
PET/CT: View behind scar tissue and become familiar with the signs for increased detection of subtle irregularities.
GAMMA CAMERA:
Application should be received by March 1, 2007 to be considered for positions starting July 1, 2008.
