Interventional Neuroradiolgy Radiology


DIRECTOR: Jacques E. Dion, MD, FRCP(C) Associate Professor of Radiology and Neurosurgery, Director, Division of Interventional Neuroradiolgy Radiology 

TRAINING: We offer a three-year fellowship providing comprehensive training in all aspects of interventional neuroradiology. The first year consists of diagnostic neuroradiology consisting of clinical and research opportunities in general diagnostic neuroradiology, pediatric neuroradiology, ENT, spine, and diagnostic neuroangiography. About 700 diagnostic cerebral angiograms are performed every year. The second and third years are dedicated to training and research in therapeutic techniques of interventional neuroradology including endovascular aneurysm embolization, tumor embolization, AVM treatment, intracranial/cervical angioplasty and stenting, stroke thrombolysis, and vertebroplasty. Approximately 450 neurovascular interventions are perfomed annually with an additional 50 spine interventions. Fellow graduates are eligible for neuroradiology CAQ's and have gone on to practice in both the academic and private settings.

FACILITIES: Facilities at Emory include seven high field MRI units, including DWI, PWI, fMRI and MR spectroscopy, seven CT scanners including CTA and CT perfusion capabilities, and two biplane neuroangiographic suites. The second bilplane suite is a new state-of-the-art Philips Allura digital biplane room with three-dimensional angiography.

RESEARCH: There is an opportunity for bench research in the dedicated laboratory with full digital angiography capability.

SALARY & BENEFITS: Salary will be approximately $50,000 at the PGY-5-6 level for the first INR year. The second and third years are paid at about $58,000/yr.. Health insurance is provided. Fellows get three weeks (15 days) of vacation and 5 interview days. If you present at a meeting, additional time off is allowed.   You may also submit to attend one paid meeting per year.

ELIGIBILITY: Qualified applicants should have completed their residency and be board eligible/certified prior to beginning fellowship. The next available fellowship position is scheduled to begin July 2015.
