Career Sketch: Dr. Bates joined Emory Healthcare in 2004 after working in women’s imaging both in private practice and academic in Florida. She was appointed as the Director of Breast Imaging at Grady Healthcare when she arrived in 2004 and remained director until June 2006. During that time, she was instrumental in modernizing the breast center at Grady and, under her guidance, increased the volume of women seen at Grady who had received an earlier diagnosis of breast cancer. She has lectured for the Winship Cancer Institute Breast Health Care Forum and the Georgia Radiologic Society of Technologists and participates regularly in resident teaching giving lectures and has served as a mock board reviewer for the residents. Her current research interests include breast papillomas, and stereoscopic and digital mammography. Dr. Bates was recently appointed as the Director of the breast imaging fellowship program. Her time is now split between Emory and Grady.
