Career Sketch: Dr. Newell joined Emory Healthcare in 2001 after serving as director of women’s imaging, chairman of quality management committee and vice chairman of the department of radiology at Porter Memorial Hospital in Indiana. She is the current chairman of the education committee for the Georgia Radiological Society. Dr. Newell is a member on numerous departmental and hospital committees and a committee member on the ACR Committee on Education Under Commission on Breast Cancer. She is also an image reviewer for the ACR Mammography Accreditation Program. In addition to being widely published, Dr. Newell is a reviewer for the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR). She provides extensive resident teaching which includes being a board reviewer and a mock boards examiner. In the academic years of 2004-05 and 2006-07, her involvement prompted the Emory Radiology Residents to award Dr. Newell the Teacher of the Year. Her current research project involves stereoscopic digital mammography.
