Career Sketch: Dr. Robert Long, Assistant Professor of Radiology at Emory University School of Medicine (SOM) has extensive research experience that has contributed to the field of medical imaging throughout his career. From 2001-2006, Dr. Long was Director of the 4.7T Small Animal Imaging SOM Core Facility and then took on the role as Director of the 4.7T Small Animal Imaging Core Facility in Radiology from 2006-2008. Prior to taking on those positions, he served as a Senior Research Associate in Radiology and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the Emory University SOM. After receiving his PhD from Emory University, Dr. Long continued his postdoctoral training as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, in Physical Chemistry and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy at Emory University's Department of Chemistry. Before coming to Emory University, Dr. Long was a Research Chemist at the Tennessee Eastman Company.

Dr. Long's research includes working with the application of Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Imaging in biomedicine. His current area of interest includes the development of new techniques employing magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging. These techniques provide for the determination of important key metabolic and functional information in the design of implantable bioartifical constructs for future diabetes treatment. In addition, the methodology for quantitative dynamic magnetic resonance imaging of mouse models of disease are also of current interest to Dr. Long.
