Career Sketch: Dr. Sprawls' greatest career contributions have been in medical imaging and medical physics education, not only at the university level in the U.S. but around the world. Dr. Sprawls is recognized as an international leader in the process of developing shared and open web-based resources to improve education in all countries. He is now working with institutions and organizations around the world in the process of re-engineering the educational process.

Dr. Sprawls became Professor of Emeritus of Radiology at Emory University School of Medicine, in 2005, at the conclusion of a 45-year tenure on the faculty that began in 1960 with the Department of Physics.

2009

Dr. Sprawls has been selected for recognition as Distinguished Emeritus by the Emeritus College. This honor has been bestowed on Dr. Sprawls for his many years of continued contribution to the medical community.

Dr. Carolyn Meltzer, Chair of Radiology, nominated Dr. Sprawls for this esteemed award. The Emeritus College of Emory explains: "The Distinguished Emeritus Reception is an annual event hosted by the Emeritus College honoring the achievements of Distinguished Emeritus faculty from across the University. Distinguished Emeriti are those whose contributions to academia, the University, and the community have continued beyond retirement, and are chosen by a selection committee based upon nominations received. The criteria for selection include contributions made to the University, recognition received by those outside the University, and activity in retirement years."
