Career Sketch: Dr. Hwang completed the combined Neuroradiology/Diagnostic Radiology/Neuroradiolgy Program at the New York University School of Medicine before joining the Emory Radiology Department as an Assistant Professor. His research interests have primarily involved image processing/analysis and computational modeling of diffusion and susceptibility effects in MRI. Most recently, he has been involved with the segmentation of CT images of the paranasal sinuses for purposes of modeling flow. Over the years, Dr. Hwang has successfully delivered multiple oral presentations at the annual meetings of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and of the Radiology Society of North America. Other accomplishments include receiving a patent in 2004 for a subvoxel segmentation algorithm for reducing partial volume blurring in tomographic images. He also earned the Sylvia Sorkin Greenfield Award for the best paper to appear in the journal, Medical Physics, in 1997.
