Career Sketch: Dr. Provenzale is a neurologist and neuroradiologist who served as Chief of Neuroradiology at Duke University Medical Center for 12 years prior to beginning his Emory career. He has a long-standing interest in Radiology journalism, having served as a Melvin Figley fellow in journalism at the American Journal of Roentgenology in 1996 and for the past 12 years as Associate Editor of that journal. His research has long focused on advanced MR imaging applications to cancer diagnosis. At Emory, Dr. Provenzale works with a large number of collaborators throughout Emory University School of Medicine and Georgia Tech to develop novel methods to image and treat tumors using nanotechnology-based methods.

Dr. Provenzale has served Chair of the Research Committees of the American Society of Neuroradiology and as a member of the American Roentgen Ray Society. Presently, he serves on the RSNA Research Development Committee. In addition, he presently serves as Co-Director of the Introduction to Academic Radiology course sponsored by the American Roentgen Ray Society. In that capacity, he helps to develop a nationwide effort to stimulate the development of Radiology residents in academic careers in Radiology education and research.
