Dr Mittal is Director of the MRI Body Imaging Program (Division of Abdominal Imaging) and one of the senior faculty in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences. He has received several awards during his career including the Outstanding Senior Faculty Clinician Award from the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences in 2012. His research experience involves utilizing advanced MR imaging techniques, including dynamic contrast-enhanced perfusion, MR spectroscopy (MRS), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) (including skewness and kurtosis), to study patients with liver cancer.

Dr. Mittal is a board certified radiologist  with fellowship training in abdominal imaging, and interest in MRI body imaging such as liver, pancreas and biliary system and pelvic floor imaging  His current clinical interests are in optimization of MRI sequences and applications of advanced MR imaging, including functional MRI (fMRI). Current research interests are in applications of MRoncotreat for tumor volumetric analysis. Dr. Mittal is also an active reviewer of the Journal of Medical Resonance imaging (JMRI).
