Welcome to the website of Emory University's Medical Imaging Program. Medical Imaging is a branch of health care delivery that utilizes x-rays and other energy forms to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. The Medical Imaging professional (radiologic technologist or radiographer) provides quality patient care while creating diagnostic images independently, assisting radiologists and other physicians in imaging the body, and operating specialized radiographic equipment.
This is an ideal program for those interested in both personal interaction and a "high-tech" career in health science. The Medical Imaging professional must apply their knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, patient positioning, radiation protection, and image production and evaluation in the performance of their responsibilities. Through a blend of classroom education at the university and clinical education at a variety of clinical education settings, students acquire the knowledge and skills to achieve professional competence.
Emory University's Medical Imaging Program is one of the few programs offering a baccalaureate degree in this rapidly advancing field. Graduates of the program should advance more rapidly within the profession into management, educational positions, careers as application specialists for imaging equipment, or advanced clinical practice in CT and MRI.
Emory University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate, baccalaureate, master's, education specialist's, doctorate and professional degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404.679.4500 for questions about the accreditation of Emory.
