ASSISTANT DIRECTOR:
Jason Weiden, MD, Assistant Professor of Radiology

PROGRAM: The Department of Radiology at Emory University School of Medicine offers a one-year fellowship position in Emergency and Trauma Radiology.  Fellows receive diverse and comprehensive clinical experience in the emergency imaging departments of three teaching hospitals (Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown and Grady Memorial Hospital).  Fellows can expect to gain interpretive experience in all modalities including CT, MR, ultrasound, fluoroscopy and radiography.  Resident and medical student interactions afford fellows ample teaching opportunities.  Protected academic time allows fellows to explore research interests.

FACULTY AND EQUIPMENT: Dedicated Emergency Radiology faculty members with backgrounds in Emergency, Neurological and Musculoskeletal imaging participate in fellow education. The fellowship curriculum primarily utilizes Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown and Grady Memorial Hospital. Equipment includes nine multi-slice CT scanners (a combination of GE and Philips equipment). There are five superconducting 1.5 Tesla MRI units and a 3 Tesla magnet. There are 11 state-of-the-art ultrasound rooms. The Emergency Radiology Division has access to eight digital fluoroscopic rooms. A new GE PACS system was recently installed on the Emory University Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown campuses. A Philips I-Site PACS system supports imaging at Grady Memorial Hospital.

There is diversity in the group of patients treated across the Emory University Health System. Emory University Hospital provides complex quaternary care and logs more than 33,000 annual emergency patient visits. Emory University Hospital Midtown is a blend of academic and community encounters with approximately 55,000 emergency patient visits. Grady Memorial Hospital, the only Level 1 trauma center within 100 miles of metro Atlanta, sees over 105,000 emergency patients per year.
