Career Sketch: Dr. Garcia joined Emory University in 1985 after 12 years of experience in medical imaging obtained at the University of Miami, Florida and at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center/UCLA in Los Angeles. From 1997-2005 he was Vice-chairman of Research for the Department of Radiology at Emory University. From 1993-2000, he was Director of the Emory Center for PET, and the Advanced Imaging Research Center. Dr. Garcias research interest lies in the areas of medical imaging and bioinformatics. His field of quantitative analysis of cardiac images techniques have resulted in six commercial products used worldwide for quantifying myocardial perfusion images. He also developed the first computer interface for the real time acquisition and display of 2D-echo images. He has authored or co-authored over 213 articles, 49 chapters and 7 books in the fields of nuclear medicine, cardiovascular imaging and image processing.
