Career Sketch: Dr. Diego Martin joined Emory in 2004, after implementing several initiatives relating to MRI at West Virginia University. He is currently the Director of MRI and Chair of the MRI Safety Committee for the Emory Radiology Department. Dr. Martin’s international reputation is attributed to his continued exploration to identify improvements in MRI technology and applications for the detection, diagnosis, and characterization of diseases of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis.

Dr. Martin is an established researcher and educator who is extensively published in areas of MRI imaging of diseases of the liver, pancreas, kidneys, and bowel. His current research focus is on developing MR techniques to evaluate metabolic and functional disorders of tissues for applications that include cancer and transplantation. This investigation will explore the development of MR techniques for characterization of pathology with emphasis on the development of non-invasive and non-harmful approaches useful for early disease detection, screening, and therapy monitoring.

Dr. Martin is active with many radiological organizations and reviews manuscripts for many medical journals including the American Journal of Radiology and the European Journal of Radiology. Education of the next generation of researchers and radiologists is a high priority for Dr. Martin. He chairs the American College of Radiology educational course on body MRI and he has authored numerous chapters in education textbooks, as well as having written his own authoritative textbook on this topic.
