Interventional Vascular Radiology
The Department of Radiology of Emory University School of Medicine offers a one or two year fellowships in vascular and interventional radiology.
DIRECTOR: Abbas Chamsuddin, MD, Associate Professor of Radiology, Director of Interventional Vascular Radiology Fellowship
TRAINING: This program is designed to provide a complete experience, preparing the trainee for private or academic practice. Fellows participate in and perform the gamut of vascular and interventional procedures. Training includes pre and post-procedure management and patient care. Our service admits patients primarily for some procedures. The section also protocols and interprets CT angiography and MR angiography and venography studies. Weekly interdepartmental conferences include vascular surgery and GI. A weekly conference designed for interventional fellows includes a didactic lecture series. Other opportunities include a monthly interventional M & M conference on campus and in the Atlanta community you may choose to join the angio club which meets monthly.
FACILITIES: Emory University Affiliated Hospitals include Emory University Hospital, a tertiary referral center; Grady Memorial Hospital, a 1,000 bed county hospital, the Atlanta Veterans Hospital, and Henrietta Egleston Hospital for Children. Equipment includes seven Philips angiographic suites, seven CT scanners, and six 1.5T MRI units.
RESEARCH: Complete animal laboratory facilities are available, and trainees are encouraged to participate in projects of their own or those of the staff.
SALARY & BENEFITS: (2002 figures)- Salary will be approximately $42,422 at the PGY-6 level. Health insurance is provided. Fellows get three weeks (15 days) of vacation and 5 interview days. If you present at a meeting, additional time off is allowed. You may also submit to attend one paid meeting per year.
ELIGIBILITY: The fellowship is available to individuals who have completed an accredited residency in Diagnostic Radiology, or its equivalent. A Pediatric Interventional Fellowship is available for candidates who complete a year of IR training.
